Haiti

I gave up watching the news a couple of years ago. Weird, I know for someone who has the job I do, but actually, that is exactly why I made the choice I did. I see so many disgusting, horrible things that sometimes bring me to tears. So watching the news was just an addition to that. Murder, rape, despair. That's all that is shown on the news anymore. The Jessie Davis murder here at home, the Jaycee Dugard story in California, the Mammone murders again here at home...are just some of those cases that remind me over and over...turn off the television, Jess. I am a mother and as a mother, those things bother me, and I mean deeply bother me. Sometimes so much that it's difficult to sleep. But as I say all of this, I find myself stuck in front of the television each time something about the terrible disaster in Haiti is shown on tv. Oh my heart just breaks for them. I want to bring all of those children into this home and help them. Again, the mom in me comes out.

An old Elder-Beerman friend of mine posted on her facebook page, "I always wanted to be married to a superhero." Her husband, Mark, and some of his friends boarded a plane to Haiti to help. If you can take some time to add him to your prayers, I'm sure Susi would appreciate it. Although I have never met her husband, I have to agree with her, I think she did marry a superhero. It is amazing to me the sacrifice he is making. What an amazing man he must be. Thank God there are people who give more of themselves that are asked.
